After years of ‘keeping up appearances’, I came to Arrow Health because I’d tried everything and couldn’t stay clean. My approach wasn’t working. I was broken. Years of using had left me lonely and disconnected. Being at Arrow Health was the first time I felt like I belonged in a very long time. There’s no miracle cures or quick fixes, but in terms of learning some core skills and starting the journey to recovery, I couldn’t have asked for a better place than Arrow Health.

Will, Former Client

“My parents are very grateful for your Family First Step Program and the counselling they received whilst I was in rehab. It helped immensely in educating them about addiction and arming them with coping strategies to help better support themselves and me throughout my ongoing recovery.

I recommend Arrow Health to anyone struggling with addiction.”

Fiona, Former Client

“Arrow Health saved me from myself, what else can I say. I can not thank them enough.”

Sam, Former Client

“Arrow health has helped me find myself again! And be the person I was before my addiction. I could not be more grateful. I owe them my life as they have saved mine! Thank you to all the staff and facilitators for everything, even though my time has come to an end they are and will still be there for me when I’m in need!”

Daniela, Former Client

“Coming to Arrow has changed my life in so many ways. It has taught me a new, better way of living. A life without alcohol! I’ve learnt the tools to deal with what life throws at me. Arrow has become like my second family – the staff are amazing, and I’ve made lifelong friends along the way. Everyone’s support helped build my confidence. I never felt judged or uncomfortable. Thank you for giving me my life back.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect when I first arrive at the Bentinck?
From the moment you walk through the front door you can expect to be warmly welcomed by Arrow Health staff and fellow residents. Your peers will be quick to introduce themselves, show you to your room and give you a tour of the facility. Once you enter our Therapeutic Community (TC) the journey of recovery begins. From the get-go we support all new arrivals to engage in the program. Arrow Health has no ‘grace’ period and it is our expectation that clients will endeavour to make the most of this special opportunity to reset, heal, be challenged, learn, and recover.
Can I apply for Centrelink benefits whilst at The Bentinck? If so, what is the process?
Your case manager is able to commence the application process online, they will then provide you with a document allowing you to nominate a support person to follow up your Centrelink application on your behalf.
What happens if I have urgent financial or work-related issues to attend to?
Once you have settled in, your case manager will work with you to create a plan of action.
What happens if I have ongoing legal issues and am due to appear in court whilst at the Bentinck?
Once you have settled in, our forensic team will work with your case manager to assist you and communicate with your informant and solicitor as required during your stay. Provided we are given sufficient notice we can arrange transport and support to any scheduled court appearance. Please note forensic services, travel and supervision fees will apply for each court appearance and additional case work you require.
What if I need to see a physiotherapist or dentist?
We strongly recommend that your time with Arrow be dedicated to your recovery. Our medical team will assess any health concerns and determine if they are urgent. If the issue is deemed non-urgent and unlikely to cause deterioration or disruption during your stay, it will be addressed in your aftercare plan. Urgent matters, or those causing pain, will be prioritised and managed promptly.
On what grounds will I be withdrawn or discharged from the program?
Our Therapeutic Community is governed by a set of non-negotiable rules to uphold and maintain the safety of the community, staff, and individuals. If you break these rules, values, and guidelines, you may be withdrawn or discharged for a period of time determined by the clinical team. We do however put emphasis on behaviour change and depending on the seriousness of the breach, the clinical team may decide to support you through a behaviour support plan or an individual recovery plan.

Please note that Arrow Health have the absolute discretion to terminate a client's inpatient stay in the event of serious infractions of the Fundamental Rules (detailed in the Residential and Hospital Agreement).

Can I speak to my family and/or partner once I arrive?
No. Our team will contact your nominated loved one to let them know you have
arrived safely. You can make phone calls to people on your approved contact list on your allocated day the week following your admission.
What if I choose to self-discharge and leave the program against staff advice?
If you choose to leave against staff advice, we will support you in contacting your family to inform them of your decision and arrange transportation. If transportation cannot be arranged with your family, we will provide transport to the nearest train station.

Please note that if your family is picking you up, you will not be permitted to remain in the Therapeutic Community while waiting. Additionally, if you discharge against advice, you will not be eligible for any of Arrow Health’s discharge programs, as these are reserved for those who complete their program. If you wish to re-enter the program after self-discharge, you will need to contact our intake team to reapply.

What should I bring with me to residential treatment?
After you have enrolled into a residential treatment program at Arrow Health, we will provide you with an information booklet which includes all the information you need prior to your arrival. Our pre-admission program will also ensure that you are supported and your questions answered.

You can also take a look at our what to pack for detox blog post, which contains some of this information.

What if I have not packed enough clothes or forgotten a pair of shoes?
You can provide a list to staff of what you need, they will contact your family to organise your items to be dropped at our Armadale office or Woodend, whichever is closer. In your first 30 days you are eligible for the weekly shopping service where you are able to purchase a limited supply of necessary items. Additionally, we do keep a supply of second-hand items donated by previous residents and staff if you require clothing urgently. Please note there are laundry facilities on premises and clients can wash personal items.
Should I bring any physical cash?
No. It is not necessary, as mentioned above $300 client cash is initially invoiced to cover the cost of incidentals during treatment (e.g. medication, cigarettes, shampoo), any cash bought onsite will be immediately deposited into your client cash account as we do not keep any cash on premises
How do I order and pay for personal items such as toiletries, medication, and cigarettes when I am there?
Ideally you should ensure you have all required items with you on admission. In the event you forget something, or run out of something, in your first 30 days you can take advantage of the weekly shop. You will be asked to submit a shopping list request for basic necessities each Tuesday, this will be reviewed by the clinical team and each Wednesday, the facilities manager will purchase the approved items on your behalf utilising your client cash.

If your stay is more than 30 days, you will be required to purchase required items when you are on leave.
